Okay, first of all: intel Macs can use GLFaster now.
My MacBook has always been at like, 15 fps running around nowhere, and single-digits outside the bank in Iron Forge.
Tonight I'm getting a *much* better rate for all rendering. I have my detail settings jacked all the way down, enabled shaders then ticked them all off.
screencaps of FPS while running around, flying, and sitting in a cart contemplating my talent spec.
I've never seen anything like this:
Getting 50+ FPS is completely unheard of on this machine, staring at the wall or no.
I did drop to like 2 fps at the bank when looking at the sea of people.
I think in typical use it will be much better. Regardless, this machine is finally playable.
Another thing, I don't know how to explain it, but when I move to GLFaster 2 instead of GLFaster 1, the movement and UI "feels buttery". That is to say, it seems slippery. It is buffering too many frames and they're all sliiiiiding into place at once. It just has a weird buttery sensation.
I wish there was a better adjective.
But seriously folks, time to check it out on your MacBooks. It has drastically improved. I can only imagine the performance boost the MBPs with real video cards are getting.intolerant, arrogant, selfish, and self-righteous
Well from what I saw it wasn't /that/ big an improvement to run in XP on the MBs. The MBPs had a nice boost but now they'll have the GLFaster as well. I WAS getting an average of 15fps. Now i'm averaging 20s. WIth nice bursts when I'm out and about I'm getting spikes to 40-50. Those are rare, but the overall effect is that it is immensely playable.
It was a huge pain in the ass before. Now I'll play on it. And not just Fishing and Auction House.intolerant, arrogant, selfish, and self-righteous
I tried to make it clear, but it is on a Black MacBook Core Duo (not Core 2).
So it uses the PoS Intel video. MacBook Pro users are going to see a much better improvement, like 100+ fps I'd imagine. Likewise iMacs with intel CPUs and ATI 1600's. MacPros of course own at WoW regardless but this puts them into insane framerates.intolerant, arrogant, selfish, and self-righteous
I was hitting 100+ FPS outside Org last night on my iMac. Once I went inside it dropped down to 40ish, but that's still twice the 20FPS I was getting before. I imagine I'll probably end up hitting a constant 50-60 overall, with peaks at 130ish in low population areas.
Of course, this is also dependant upon your video settings. I might go in and play with mine and see what happens. But I'm VERY happy with the change, and can't wait to see what it's like on my MacBook (I have the cheapest one possible, with 2G Ram).
