I've taken some time to write a Blog post reguarding World of Warcraft security.

This blog post covers tips for all Operating Systems, Windows, OSX, and Linux.

My goal for this is to help We Know members secure their computers against malicious attacks.

I use the iPhone app as my authenticator. This means I always have it on me.

Note on Authenticators - be sure to write down the serial number and store it away securely. (I use 1password on my macs for this sort of thing) Having this number reportedly helps if you ever lose your authenticator.

Oh if you want some other times...check this site out. I have found it to be one of the most informative

Miss you folks, more than I should, and some of you less than you deserve.

His link went to "http://www.horbinshacksyouraccount.net" which is an unregistered domain name - as a joke. An Officer was asking about the link being hazardous. As a precausion, I am unlinking the actual link because someone could register the domain name and put malicious content on it.

curse.com article that was just posted that indicates that they think there may be a hack that gets around the presumed security of the authenticators. I'm not sure if there's any truth to what's being said -- I just found it interesting that there's anything like this being posted.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet... yup.

The curse article links to a thread on the forums where a user claims they have used the authenticator for over two years. As the authenticator has been available since summer of 2008, I find this suspect. It's probably still a good idea to take safety precautions as it relates to this story, but that was a flag for me that this could be a prank of sorts.beautiful music forever

There is a man-in-the-middle attack going on. This requires malware on a person's computer and is only effective for the duration of a single log on (with an authenticator.)

I get it with the info Kastang posted. VERY useful, very helpful. But to be worried that someone would register the domain 'www.horbinshacksyouraccount.net' after the fact, in an attempt to 'do something distasteful'........come on folks.....If you are that concerned about security you should not be posting to anything on the internet, and you should immediately get rid of any on-line social tool you currently use.

Interesting that someone sees enough value in wow accounts to go through the complexity of setting up a MitM attack on them. still back to keep your machines clean change your PW frequently don't make it easy to guess and don't let the token be a false sense of security ;)

I would be willing to bet that the majority of WoW hackings are somehow related to gold selling websites. Gold selling websites offer gold for something like 5-8 dollars per 1000 gold on ANY server. There is no possible way to have such an extreme stockpile of gold on all servers through legit means. Stripping a guild bank and character for all gold is a great way to have an excessed stockpile of gold.Contact Info: AIM/YIM: iKastang
