I'm looking into getting a netbook for work / very light on the go gaming.

I've read about the nvidia ion being able to run wow at decent settings. Of course, the gaming is mainly a secondary use of this system.

Any suggestions? I have a budget for $600-ish.

I"ve been looking at the HP Mini 311 for the same reason but haven't seen how WoW runs. The base price is $400 and with some upgrades should still fall under $600. But at that price point, if portability isn't a major concern, why not just get a regular laptop?

Here's a list of current netbooks with the ION chipset
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_73301.html

Without a dedicated video card, I highly doubt you would be able to get any sort of satisfactory performance from a Netbook. That paired with single core <2.0ghz processors and low ram, I cant imagine it being a good combination.

It looks like you aren't alone in this idea. This article seemed relevant. A gamespot article came to similar conclusions. With both the articles being at least at least 9 months old it seems like the newer ones, assuming as good or better CPU's, memory capacities, and graphic cards should perform as well if not better.

I've been eyeing the asus Eee pc series. the ion + dual core atom + 3gb ram platform might make it bearable lol.
The CULV CPUs are better I think but intel won't allow it with ion for some reason I read
http://www.netbookreviews.net/asus/eee-pc-1201n/

there's also the athlon neo line but it's kind of new not sure how good it is. I took it to 2gb ram (it comes with 1gb) and I run WOW on it "acceptably" well - but with all graphics turned down. I would not try to raid with it, but its ok for dailies and light WOW duties. Also it runs all the PopCap type games extremely well. I don't think you are going to get a really strong gaming experience from any netbook frankly. It is awesome for firefox and hulu, etc.. also runs VLC fantastically well.

This run ships with Windows 7 starter.
